The people behind the page
Researched, written and checked by people
Something Navy is made by a small team of editors and writers who care about getting the science of everyday life right. We read the original studies, follow the research that came after, and tell you plainly what is known and what is not.

The editors
Our editors write for every section too, and they proofread and check every story before it goes out and look after our corrections.
Senior Content Manager
Valentino Adkins
Valentino studied psychology and applied psychology at Leipzig University and TU Dresden, then moved into digital media at Handelsblatt Media Group, where she worked her way up from intern to web content specialist. At Something Navy she writes across all five sections and proofreads and quality-checks our stories before they are published. Her own interests sit where psychology meets communication: why some ideas land with readers, and what makes a digital story worth finishing.
Senior Content Editor
Brooke Hilland
Brooke has spent more than ten years writing, editing and developing content, with a particular eye for storytelling and editorial quality. As Senior Content Editor, Brooke writes across all five sections and proofreads and fact-checks our stories before they go out, checking every figure, name and source against the original. The goal on every piece is the same: take a complicated idea and make it clear, accurate and worth your time.
Our writers
Writers who cover every part of everyday life
Our writers are not boxed into a single beat. Each of them researches and writes across all five of our sections, bringing their own background in psychology, media and editing to every story. They read the studies behind each piece, speak to experts where it helps and keep older articles up to date as new evidence arrives.

Senior Editor
Cheyenne Nash
Cheyenne brings an academic background in communication psychology and computer science to the editor’s desk, along with several years as a freelance writer and editor. That mix shapes the stories Cheyenne chooses: the research behind how we think, feel and talk to one another, and how technology is changing it.

Web Content Manager
Skyler Horn
Skyler studied psychology at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (BSc) and cognitive psychology and psycholinguistics at the University of Hamburg (MSc). How we work
From question to published story
01
Start with a real question
Every story begins with something people actually wonder about in everyday life.
02
Go to the source
We read the original studies and the follow-up research, not just the headlines.
03
Check every figure
Numbers, names and dates are checked against the source before publishing.
04
Keep it current
When new evidence arrives we update the article and date the change.
