Comment Policy

Comments are open on most Something Navy articles because readers often add things we did not know: a personal experience, a new study, a different way of seeing the problem. These rules keep the conversation useful.

The short version

Be kind, stay on topic and do not try to sell anything.

What is not allowed

  • Personal attacks, harassment or threats, against writers or other readers.
  • Hate speech or abuse targeting someone’s race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age.
  • Spam, promotional links, affiliate links or comments written to advertise a product or service.
  • Sharing anyone’s personal information, including your own phone number or address.
  • Medical, legal or financial advice presented as certain, or claims that could put another reader at risk.
  • Impersonating another person or organisation.

How moderation works

Comments may be held for review before they appear, especially from first-time commenters or when a comment contains links. We remove comments that break these rules and may block repeat offenders. We do not edit comments to change their meaning. Disagreeing with an article, or with us, is welcome and is not a reason for removal.

If you need help

Comments are not a substitute for professional support. If something you have read has brought up something difficult, please speak to someone you trust or contact a local support service.

Reporting a comment

If you see a comment that breaks these rules, email [email protected] with the link to the article and the name shown on the comment. If you think a comment shows a factual error in an article, our Corrections Policy explains what happens next.
