Q4 is the most important time of year for many consumer brands, as the holiday time period drives high percentages of their annual revenue.
It may come as no surprise then that the fashion during this time must be on point! Keep reading for a brief recount of my favorite designs as seen in New York and Paris over the last couple of months.
Giambattista Valli is probably in my top 3 favorite designers of all time. Funny enough, I do not own a single piece, as that would entail seriously breaking the bank, but a girl can dream! I apologetically missed out on his H&M collaboration, too, but I take accountability there. He embodies whimsical femininity by every stretch of the imagination. His Resort 2020 collection was no different and I loved it so much. It was also really cool to see his interpretation of swimwear, naturally a very luxe interpretation. My favorite looks below!
Ulla Johnson gets better every season, I mean it! I am so upset I can’t buy this collection until the Fall, but talking about it here serves to brighten my day. Not to mention, she opened a store this summer in Amagansett where my family has a summer house- meant to be. Her Resort 2020 collection included ample embroideries, mixed patterns, and color as usual, but all the more vibrant (in my opinion). The jumpsuits, in particular, really caught my eye. I know I’m meant to recap my favorite Resort 2020 shows here, but I would be remiss not to include Jacquemus. This show is in fact his Spring 2020 collection, and it included a coed cast. Clearly he didn’t follow the rules, so I’m not! Not only was Jacquemus’ Spring 2020 Runway show in the most jaw-dropping (or, ‘instagrammable’) setting ever – an enchanting, rolling field of lavender flowers in Provence, France, the clothes were stunning. There was an array of colors, prints, lengths and textures, marrying a fine line between sexy and sophisticated. The hats sealed the deal for me, acting as terrific fashion accents AND genius sun-protectors. My favorite looks below!
It wouldn’t feel right not to mention Zimmermann in a round-up of my favorite Resort shows, a market that the brand truly owns across the globe. What girl doesn’t dream of a vacation wardrobe replete of Zimmermann during the early winter months? This girl does! In all seriousness, Nicky aced this collection. While it is SO clearly her namesake in design, the pastel color palette felt fresh, especially the orange hues. I love the integration of separates here, too. Trousers are a category she does really, really well and doesn’t get enough credit for in my opinion. You heard it here first! My favorite looks below!
While Staud isn’t necessarily a new name to know, Sarah Staudinger is making a stronger mark in the fashion world than ever before. Perhaps because every season her collection seems to double in size across multi-categories (RTW, handbags, shoes, hats). Her Resort 2020 collection was presented in a quaint loft in NYC, and I was ecstatic to have viewed in person earlier in June. I think her play on fabrics is my favorite part – from tulle, to jacquard, to crochet, to faux fur. Her ability to create cohesively beautiful, yet juxtaposed merchandise is really special; maybe a reason for her recent nomination in the Emerging Designer category at the CFDA Awards.
