Staying Sun Savvy

Summer is here!

Now that Memorial Day has come and gone, we’ll be spending more time in the great outdoors. For me, this means a renewed commitment to having as much fun outside as possible, while somehow avoiding any direct exposure to the sun. As someone who chooses shade wherever I go, I want to share a few of the products that help me stay sun savvy:

While it sounds like a no-brainer, here’s a friendly reminder that wearing SPF is the easiest thing you can do to avoid sun damage and the signs of aging (our friends at Supergoop taught us that 90% of the signs of aging are caused by the sun!). Here are my favorite formulas for both face and body.

A Stylish Wide Brim Hat

I’ll be honest, it took me some time to get used to wearing wide brim hats. While baseball caps seem so down to earth and carefree, wide brim hats tend to feel high maintenance. I promise they get easier to sport the more frequently you pull them out. I also admire how they instantly make an outfit look put together. Here are a few I am loving this summer.

Portable Cabanas & Umbrellas

These have been game changing for me. I no longer fear a day at the beach or a pool party invitation. With one of these in your trunk, you have instant shade wherever you may be.

I look for caftans with long sleeves and a length that stops just above my sandals. These help me stay covered while walking in and out of my cabana 🙂

I look for style first and foremost, knowing that these will become my unofficial summer uniform.

Self Tanner

Just because you aren’t going in the sun doesn’t mean you need to forego the glow. Here are my favorite sunless tanners:

UV Protectors for Hair:

Your hair and scalp also feel the effects of UV rays. Any time you get a sunburn, your hair was also likely damaged. Take precautions by spritzing a UV filtering styling spray or detangler any time you apply sunscreen. And don’t forget your scalp! Here are a few of my favorites:
