NYC Guide: Happy Hour + Rooftops

It may come as no surprise, but we love our nights out at a great bar with an even better scene.

We’re always looking for happy hour specials to sweeten the deal or endless city views that entice us to stay awhile. With all the post-work drinking and dining options in the city, it can be hard to pick a spot. They’re all so good! But these are the best. Read on for the SN-approved guide to Happy Hour in NYC and scroll further for our favorite Rooftop Bars, too.

Happy Hours:

Gitano Garden of Love NYC

If you’re looking for a tropical getaway in New York City, this is your spot. Flanked by palm trees and fresh coconuts, you won’t believe you didn’t have to board a plane to get here. Enjoy Sunset Tropical Specials Monday through Friday, from 4pm to 6pm.

Houston Hall

Houston Hall is where you go when you’ve got a big group to accommodate. They’ve got something for everyone, like an exclusive selection of craft beers and specialty cocktails. Plus, it’s a huge spot! Happy Hour is Monday through Friday, from 4pm to 7pm. Their live DJ on-site makes it really fun.

A Summer Day Café

A Summer Day Café in TriBeCa transports you to that summer feeling we crave all year round. Be sure to try their frozen cocktails because a summer day just wouldn’t be the same without one! Enjoy Happy Hour every day from 4pm to 7pm.

Porchlight is one of those spots where you meet some friends for drinks and then always end up staying there for dinner. It has a dark, rustic aesthetic with Happy Hour lasting 3 full hours, which is always a plus. Enjoy drink specials from 4pm to 7pm, Monday through Friday.

Pier A Harbor House

Located in Battery Park right on the water, Pier A Harbor House is one of the best bars in town for outdoor drinking. It has a very “New York in the summer” vibe and serves classic NYC cocktails, beer and of course, lots of wine.

City Vineyard

City Vineyard boasts a backdrop of the Hudson River and the downtown New York City skyline, so what more could you want?! Maybe their homemade wine with grapes from the best vineyards in the city and Happy Hour specials Tuesday through Friday? They have all that, too.

Rooftop Bars:

Roof at Park South

Come for the cocktails, stay for the views! The Roof at Park South has something for everyone – a garden, a fountain area, umbrellas to keep you out of the sun and a fireside lounge for when the temps drop at night. You may have to visit more than once to take it all in, which won’t be a problem because the cocktails are as amazing as all the perks.

Broken Shaker

The rooftop bar at the Freehand Hotel looks and feels like a beachy getaway in the heart of the city. The atmosphere screams “vacation” and so does their self-proclaimed Reverse Happy Hour special. The Broken Shaker celebrates Happy Hour off-peak, between 11am and 1pm. Challenge accepted! They’re open at night too, of course.

Mr. Purple

Mr. Purple is on the 15th floor of the Hotel Indigo on the Lower East Side. It boasts two terraces, complete with a swimming pool, bar, chaise lounges and banquettes. You’ll feel like you’re at your favorite resort with the best part being that New York City is just an elevator ride away.

Le Bain

Talk about a New York City classic! Le Bain is prominently featured high above the Standard Hotel. It’s been around forever and will always be one of those places you’ve got to try. It gets clubbier and clubbier as the night goes on, so just know in advance what you’re getting yourself into!

RH Rooftop

The RH Rooftop is a rooftop bar experience for all the senses. You’ll love to immerse yourself in their stunning decor complete with an expertly-styled indoor/outdoor space. Feel free to enjoy some drinks at the same time while you’re at it.

The Crown

Live your best summer life at The Crown Rooftop Bar, one of the only places in town that has unobstructed views of both the Manhattan and Brooklyn skylines. Treat yourself to their “Royal Summer” experience with regal-inspired drinks. Then soak it all up with a classic lobster roll and homemade miso creme-filled doughnuts.
