Milan and Paris Fashion Week Quick Hits Series: 1

We didn’t attend Milan or Paris Fashion Week this year, but of course we admired some of our favorite designers’ runway shows from a far! Here are our top picks of the best collections that showed across the pond.

Alberta Ferretti

Winter whites and easy loungewear-inspired styles dominated the looks at Alberta Ferretti’s Milan runway show. Clean and comfy outfits were accented with cinched-at-the-waist blazers and belts that tied everything together. Check out our favorite looks here:

Dries Van Noten

Suiting in deep grey hues opened the Dries Van Noten show, reminding us that fall fashion is all business. Next up were pretty purples in silky styles with floral accents. Looks were pulled together with statement coats that screamed ‘elevated’ and had nothing to do with ‘basic’.  Here are our favorite pieces:

The Gucci runway show was full of theatrics and maximalism, as to be expected. There was an emphasis on gender-neutral suiting, with alternate looks accented with lace, frills and other traditionally “girly” details. Colors were bright and fun, and the masks worn by the models cannot go without note, and added to the drama of the entire show. These are our faves:

Altuzarra was full of dark and moody hues, perfect for fall. Chunky knits and oversized sweaters that walked the runway were extra cozy and showed a softer side of this collection. Other notable trends were knotted details on tops and dresses that updated classic styles with a fun twist. Check out pieces we adore:

Balenciaga was full of minimalist silhouettes in fun, bright colors that were anything but ordinary. The pieces felt wearable and very much like our favorite streetwear styles. The looks were gender-neutral and above all else, the epitome of “cool.” Here are some of our favorite pieces:

The fashion world has a lot of opinions on the new Celine, but we’re here to talk only about the clothes. The looks were fresh and cheery. Everything felt wearable, like things we already have, but better, so now we *need* this season’s version. No matter where you stand on the drama surrounding the new versus the old Celine, it’s easy to agree that this collection is heading in the right direction. These are our most admired styles:
