How to Care for Wet Hair

I’m a bit of a haircare nerd.

I dive deep into ingredients, swear I can name any haircare brand by its fragrance, and have spent my fair share of time grilling stylists over how I can grow my hair longer and stronger. One of my favorite topics is also one that is most often overlooked: how to care for your strands when they are most vulnerable (namely, wet!).

We all know the basics of shampoo & conditioner, so why does properly prepping the hair for styling so often become an afterthought? After stepping out of the shower with your locks drenched, they are most vulnerable and susceptible to damage. Below are a few of my favorite products for post-shower care to ensure your strands stay healthy and strong. A few of these small tweaks can help protect your best accessory:

1

Invest in a Microfiber towel

I can’t sing the praises of microfiber loudly enough! Unlike traditional cotton towels or bath sheets, microfiber towels will not disrupt the hair shaft, and they avoid the friction that causes frizz and knots.  I also find that they dry your hair to the perfect level of “damp”, so you’re ready to walk out the door or finish with a faster blow dry.

Aquis Hair Towel Best for: All Hair Types

Devacurl Hair Towel Best for: Curly Hair

2

Generously spritz on detangler.

We’ve all used detangler as kids, but many ditch this step soon as they reach adulthood. I beg you to bring this step back into your routine. Detanglers have reinvented themselves in modern formulas that help prevent breakage, calm frizz and offer protection against both heat and UV rays.

Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle Best for : All hair types. Protect & Detangle has somewhat of a cult following (if you know, you know). It has over 140K reviews and is best known for its addictive candy-like scent.

Davines Oi All in One Milk– Best for : Dehydrated hair. Davines is an Italian hair care brand that has nailed the art of high quality, naturally derived ingredients. Their Oi Milk is like gatorade for thirsty hair and adds shine back while smoothing the hair cuticle.

R+Co Pinstripe Detangling Spray Best for: Thick Hair. R+Co is salon inspired hair care from the best artists in the business. Their Intense Detangling Spray is for those who trend on the knotty side, and want to add slip to tame their tresses.

3

Comb through to remove knots and evenly distribute product.

Mason Pearson- Best for: All hair types. Mason Pearson is the Rolls Royce of hair brushes, and this comb is no exception.

TangleTeezerBest for: Major Knots. TangleTeezer’s flexible bristles work through knots in a snap.
