Summer is just around the corner and our skin could use a refresh, especially after this particularly dry winter.
We took matters into our own hands and sourced the best info on how to take care of our skin and get it looking (and feeling!) glowy from the inside out. Here are our best tips for getting that summer glow, before the season begins.
We like to start from within, making sure to hydrate as much as possible. Even though drinking water doesn’t have instant skin-changing results like throwing on a moisturizer, it’s critical for maintaining a good, healthy glow that looks bright and dewy. Where do you think that dew comes from, anyway? So staying hydrated no matter what is key.
Diet is also a huge factor in behind-the-scenes skincare. We spoke with Dara Godfrey, a licensed nutritionist in NYC and found that she swears by eating foods rich in omega-3s, as they always help to keep skin looking youthful. She specifically recommends wild salmon and walnuts to reduce inflammation, as inflammation is a leading cause of skin problems (among other things!).
While you’re busy drinking your fluids and and eating a well-balanced diet chock full of healthy anti-inflammatories, moisturizing lotions are a quick-fix when your skin feels tight and irritated. We love these because they are light and don’t clog our pores.
Always Wear Sunscreen
SPF is always a must, even if it isn’t sunny outside or if you’re going to be out for just a few minutes. Everyone always has so many excuses, but by now we know the benefits of SPF especially when it comes to taking long-term care of our skin, so trust us (and our derms!). One of our favorite brands right now is Supergoop because all of their products feel great on our skin and have the necessary SPF to keep us safe from damaging sun rays.
That super-fried, laying-out-all-day look is a thing of the past. We’re all about a healthy glow, which can be achieved with self-tanning lotions and products, like these.
Peel pads are a great way to get rid of clogged pores and dead skin that causes more harm than good. Brightening serums and face oils are also a quick way to add some glow. These are our faves:
Makeup is the final step when it comes to looking dewy. These are the products we love to look and feel like summer is on the horizon.
