Many women switch up their beauty and skincare products during pregnancy.
Meghan, Something Navy’s AVP of Media Sales, is welcoming a baby girl this summer. Throughout her pregnancy, she has swapped out certain products from her skincare routine and added in pregnancy-friendly non-toxic alternatives. For many women, this is a particularly stressful time to be pregnant–which means self-care is even more important than ever.
Please note that there are mixed opinions on whether certain products are considered pregnancy-safe. Meghan’s picks were approved by her doctor before she started using them, but we recommend you always double-check with your own doctor to make sure the products are safe for you personally.
From the lightweight sunscreen Meghan swears by to her favorite superpower face cream, read on for Meghan’s pregnancy beauty and skincare must-haves.
Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser
I love this cleanser! It’s really a combo product that acts as a cleanser, makeup remover, and mask in one. The texture is gentle and gel-like and smells amazing thanks to the Strawberry Seed Oil which helps to brighten and hydrate. I used to use Ole Henrikson Clean Truth Foaming Cleanser but some of the ingredients are questionable for pregnancy so I swapped it for this cleanser.Shop the Brightening Cleanser
Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream
This is my #1 recommendation hands down. I have dry skin so this has been amazing to use all throughout winter (I plan to switch to The Cream as the weather gets nicer because it is a little lighter). For a less-is-more skincare person like myself, this product is a dream because it’s proven to be the most effective when used alone (meaning no serum or face oil should go on it beforehand). This has made my routine much quicker and my skin feels so firm and glowy but not greasy. And, the product reduces wrinkles–AKA this has been a good substitute for the bi-annual botox appointments I used to have!Shop the Rich Cream
Supergoop PLAY 100% Mineral Lotion SPF 50 with Green Algae
This is a great lightweight and preg-safe sunscreen that I put on directly after Augustinus Bader’s rich cream (I wait a few minutes between applying though!). The mineral formula blends in quickly and wears well under makeup without looking cakey. The rosemary leaf extract is great for calming my skin which has been much more acne-prone during pregnancy! Pre-pregnancy, I used SkinCeuticals Sport UV Defense SPF 50 but I stopped using it because it contains Salicylate.Shop the Mineral Lotion
Caudalie Instant Detox Mask
This is an amazing detoxifying mask that I actually used pre-pregnancy too. I love Caudalie products and was thrilled to keep this one in the mix — the product is vegan, non-toxic, cruelty-free, hypoallergenic, safe for sensitive skin, and free of all fillers, gluten, GMOs, and synthetic chemicals. I used to alternate Caudalie with Dr. Dennis Gross’ Alpha Beta Peel Pads but unfortunately had to remove these from my regimen since they contain retinol and some other non-pregnancy safe ingredients. These are so effective though that I will definitely be adding them back in post-pregnancy!Shop the Mask
