Dana's At-Home Skincare Routine

Practicing social distancing and working from home means you’re likely experiencing an entirely different daily routine.

And with that, you may have swapped out some of your favorite skincare and makeup products. We asked Dana (our resident beauty expert!) on how self-isolation has impacted her daily routine and what products she’s added to the mix to treat her skin from home.

How have you changed your skincare routine since we started to work from home and self-isolate?

Layers, layers, layers! Like many people, I’m giving my skin some breathing room and using this opportunity to bop around the house without any foundation, blush, or bronzer. This is a prime opportunity for layered skincare, which can sometimes be too heavy to wear during the day under makeup. Basically, my nighttime routine is now in play 24/7. When it comes to layering, you always want to start from lightest to heaviest. A great work from home skincare routine can include a face mist or essence, 1-2 serums, a moisturizer or moisturizing mask, and finally, an oil to seal it all in.

Has your skin changed now that you’re home all day?

It looks amazing but no one is around to see it! The first week or so was super dry, I think because my skin was adjusting to being inside. I’m showering more than ever (2x a day) which I know is so bad for my skin, but I do feel like the layered approach is working to protect me. What’s surprising to me is that I spent the first 2 weeks amping up my skincare routine, but totally neglecting my body. I’m now using the extra time to invest in a great body care routine as well, the bulk of which is from Necessaire. I’ve started using their exfoliator twice a week and then layering their body serum and body lotion daily. My goal is to get my elbows as glowy as my cheeks.

What products have you added to your skincare routine?

  • I’ve been using Josie Maran’s Argan Oil for basically everything (on my face, cuticles, hair, as a highlighter, added to my body cream). The only ingredient is organic argan oil, and it amps up the moisture factor wherever you apply.
  • I’ve also started using Necessaire’s body exfoliator and body serum. They’re extra little steps that feel super luxurious right now.
  • My favorite hand wash is from Herbarium, made at Blue Moon Acres farm in Pennsylvania. It’s a really beautiful wash that’s basically made from castile soap, coconut oil and essential oils. Super simple and smells amazing!
  • Lastly, I’m a huge believer in beauty from the inside out. I’ve been loving Sakara’s Detox Water Drops which are packed with antioxidants for extra glow. I’ve also been drinking tons of Four Sigmatic mushroom coffee.

Are you trying any new products or face masks at home?

I’ve gotten really into Drunk Elephant’s T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial. I know I’m late to the game on this one because it has a cult following, but there’s no time like the present! That one exfoliates super gently. Now’s a great time to “multi-mask” and follow any exfoliating masks with a moisturizing mask to add hydration back to the skin. I love the Kora Organics sleep mask for this, since right now you can wear it during the day as well.
